Whitehaven or Workington to Newcastle or Sunderland or the W2W – Walney Island, just outside Barrow-in-Furness on Cumbria’s Irish Sea coast, to Wearmouth in Sunderland or Whitby. We provide the full bike transport service for enthusiasts completing any of the cycle routes across the north of England.
We have a fleet of vehicles ranging from taxis to minibuses and all are fully equipped to carry passengers cycles and luggage. We cater for all types of bike transport and can carry small or large cycling parties.

The Coast 2 Coast Bike Route
Developed by Sustrains in partnership with various local authorities, the Coast to Coast cycle or C2C route takes in the scenery between Whitehaven and Workington to the West across to the North Sea at Sunderland or Tynemouth. The Sea to Sea route is best travelled from West to east to take advantage of the prevailing winds. Covering 140 miles, the C2C route is a regular route taken for charity fund raising events. The route takes you through all characteristics of Northern scenery from lakes to hills and from moors to coastline. The two new sections to the route take you via Ullswater in The Lakes and Lanchester in County Durham.
Our many services include baggage transfers, cycle transfers and cyclist transfers. We have fantastic bike trailers which allow us to transfer complete, ‘ready to ride’ bikes and riders together.

Choose a 16 seat minibus which has ample space for luggage, passengers and bikes. EcoTravel can organise a minibus from Newcastle, a minibus from Hexham or indeed from any North East location of your choice. If you need an 8 seater minibus, EcoTravel runs several. Seating up to 8 people it offers a large amount of space that is guaranteed to fit up to four bikes (with the maximum amount of passengers). If more space is required, EcoTravel also has 8 bikes trailer facilities, meaning that if the bus is full more bikes can be towed. Thus, built with space in mind, it is the comfortable and stress free choice of transport for you and your bikes. Some exciting tracks on offer in the North East include:
Kielder Water and Forest Park, Kielder – Two of the best single track trails in England. There is the extremely challenging ‘Up and Over’ black trail and also the ‘Deadwater’ red trail. The forest is host to No Fear Night Rides, Demo Days and KTR’s Marathon Series
Hamsterley Forest in County Durham – Try the red and blue cycle trails, a strenuous and challenging black trail, The Loop for MTB skills development or The Grove Link trail which is suitable for family cycling. There is something for every skill level at Hamsterley. There is also a tea room for refreshments and a visitor’s centre. Hamsterley is also host to a challenging race series with dates throughout the year.
Darlington West Park 4x track trail - The new bike track at West Park gives keen MTB bikers the chance to test their skills for free. It is based on the concept of 4X riding, which involves riding down a hill with jumps and banked corners. You can set your own level from undemanding to advanced.
Chopwell Woods - forest roads near Gateshead. Outside Line Mountain Bike Trail is a way-marked trail which follows forest roads and takes you around Chopwell Woods, showcasing some of its finest views. Also at Chopwell is the Powerline Trail; a fast, technical and testing trail with flowing burns and a twisting single track.
C2C route –This route is a regular for charity fund raising events. The Coast to Coast route takes you through all aspects of Northern scenery starting in Whitehaven, Workinton or St. Bees and leading on to the beautiful rolling hills and tranquil lakes of the lake district, across the bleak moors of the un-spoilt northern Pennines district and finally down to the to the coast at Tynemouth, Sunderland or Whitley Bay. Rievers Route – Known as the return C2C with the same start and finish points as the C2C route (Whitehaven to Tynemouth) but via Kielder Water reservoir. Again we can provide a full cycling logistics service using one of our fleet of minibuses. Allow us to arrange your stopover accommodation and transportation via our 7 seat people carrier, 12 seat minibus or by standard taxi. Whatever your party size, we have the vehicle to suit.
Hadrian’s Cycleway – The Roman Route of the C2C cycle route. Following the line of the Hadrian’s Wall you will be presented with fantastic coastal views, beautiful countryside, forts and museums. As well as the charming villages and attractive market towns, you will find amazing modern attractions along the way too. The freedom you will experience, cycling through this untouched terrain, is second to none. Normally cycled from west to east, it also lends itself well to the reverse route. Coast and Castle – This route will take you from Newcastle to Edinburgh via Berwick upon Tweed and Melrose. You will pass the stunning Bamburgh and Lindisfarne Castles along the way. Travelling along peaceful lanes you will pass through the border country before arriving at the gentle Moorfoot Hills in Midlothian. The view of Edinburgh at the summit is spectacular. Way of the Roses – This special cycling route was developed to celebrate 15 years of the National Cycle Network. This impressive ‘coast to coast’ cycle route takes you from Morecambe Bay on the Irish Sea to Bridlington Bay on the North Sea Coast, taking in both Lancashire for the red rose and Yorkshire for the white rose, along the way. Pennine Cycle Way – The longest cycle route in England, being over 350 miles long. It can be divided into 3 sections, with each part being a tour in its own right. The first part would take in the South Pennines, from Holmfirth to Appleby. The second would cover the North taking in Appleby to Berwick. Finally the third part covers Derby to Holmfirth. With much of the latter section being traffic free EcoTravel would ensure your safe luggage forwarding to your final stop off point. We can also arrange your bike transportation, with our bike trailer, back to your home or start point.
Walney to Wear and Whitby W2W – A challenging route, this links Walney Island, Cumbria, to Whitby at the mouth of the river Wear. You will navigate the peninsulas of the Lake District, the low fells of South Cumbria and the Eden Valley. As well as visiting many outstanding areas of Durham and the Lakes, you will finally arrive in the dramatic Yorkshire Moors.
