From 7th July to 1st September, Great Northumberland events are being held across the county. Fifty six days of summer fun have been planned, and it won’t cost a penny if you want to participate in any or all of them.
Since Eco Cabs operate in and around Hexham, providing private taxis in the local area, we would like to bring this fantastic event to your attention as it is not one to be missed! The County Council has organised these events to showcase the best the county has to offer in the way of arts, heritage, creativity and innovation. The launch is set to take place in Hexham and there are many other venues where you can enjoy special family activities. They include:
- Hexham Abbey
- National Trust Wallington
- Cheeseburn Sculpture
- The Maltings
- The Northern Poetry Library
- Allenheads Contemporary Arts
- November Club, Morpeth
- The Alnwick Garden
- Seaton Delaval Hall
- Alnwick Playhouse
- Bamburgh Castle
- And many more
What is Great Northumberland All About?
This eight-week long series of events has been planned to coincide with the Great Exhibition of the North that is taking place in Gateshead and Newcastle. The idea behind the celebrations is to showcase all that the county has to offer and encourage more visitors and residents to explore the area. There will be a mix of heritage events, live performances, exhibitions and commissions. All are welcome, and events are free.
Launch Day Events
Located near Corbridge, Hexham is the location for the launch that will provide people with a snapshot of what is going to be available over the following weeks. Celebrations start at 1pm in the Abbey Grounds and The Sele. Outdoor arts company Walk the Plank are putting on a performance together with various musicians in the newly-restored bandstand. From 1.30pm until 2.30pm you will be able to experience small snippets of what is to come, with many representatives coming together to showcase their own upcoming events. When this is all over there is going to be a public ceilidh led by The Village Band.
