Located 270 miles north of London and perched upon the shores of the River Tyne, the city of Newcastle is currently home to nearly 300,000 residents. It therefore stands to reason that there are numerous events to enjoy during the warmer months of the year. So, what does this eclectic city have in store and what are some must-see events that should never be missed? Let’s take a closer look.
The Great North Run
To be fair, the Great North Run is held annually every September; perhaps not technically the height of summer in the eyes of some visitors. We are mentioning this event here due to the fact that it is one of the largest of its kind; attracting well over 50,000 participants every year. This tradition was first proposed in 1981 and it has gained ground ever since. Be sure to check the official website to discover the 2018 dates.
The Great Exhibition of the North
If you rarely travel to the northern portion of England, this event is a great idea. The Great Exhibition of the North celebrates the innovations and cultural achievements associated with Newcastle as well as the surrounding areas. The good news is that it takes place throughout the entire summer and it will run until 9 September. A host of live performances and art displays await all visitors.
The Lindisfarne Festival
This event is taking place between 30 August and 2 September. It is considered to be one of the best end-of-summer festivals in the north and should never be missed. However, keep in mind that this is more of an intimate gathering; there are a total of only 3,500 seats. This is why it is a good idea to make reservations in advance. More than 100 artists will perform on eight different stages and there are numerous food stalls located within its confines. If you are travelling here with a group of friends, it is wise to choose professional minibus hire in Newcastle. Arriving and departing will be made much easier and of course, flexible travel options are always available.
Although we are more than halfway done with summer, there is no doubt that Newcastle is still going strong. If you are hoping to enjoy a holiday during the upcoming weeks, why not experience this city for yourself? There is no doubt that you will love what is in store.
